I have suffered  greatly for 5 months with drs and ER that all misdiagnosed based on age stereotyping. If I have excruciating pain in my knees and I am 50+ then it must be degenrative joint disease/osteoarthuritus then as pain increased ER called it severe djd/oa.   Every Ortho i tried to get appointment with couldn’t see me till March and April.  I thank God for interceding by having Ms. Gardner with insurance co. calling me to follow-up on my ER visit.  The call was just out of the blue.  I told her my delimma and she got on the case for me, immediately.  Even called and got me appointment within 3 days with Orthopaedic doctor with knee specialty.   Also I have a new primary care doctor and clinic.  Based on exam, ultrasound, and X-rays from other doctors, he says that the pain i was experiencing was not arthritis (only mild case of that) but said I have torn cartledges in both knees!  Thus, difficulty walking and severe pain.  He ordered MRIs to confirm.  Next step prepped by my primary care dr. for surgery.   God heard my son, my grandbabies prayers.  And as I shared my testimony with Pastor Omie, she told me that she has been praying Psalm 70 back to God and personalizing it with my name.   She was excited to hear my testimony knowing that God honored her prayers too.  Thank God for praying folk all around me.

Psalm 70 (New International Version)

For the director of music. Of David. A petition.

 1 Hasten, O God, to save me;
       O LORD, come quickly to help me.

 2 May those who seek my life
       be put to shame and confusion;
       may all who desire my ruin
       be turned back in disgrace.

 3 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!”
       turn back because of their shame.

 4 But may all who seek you
       rejoice and be glad in you;
       may those who love your salvation always say,
       “Let God be exalted!”

 5 Yet I am poor and needy;
       come quickly to me, O God.
       You are my help and my deliverer;
       O LORD, do not delay.

My first months clean and sober,
BJ & Stanice
BJ & Stanice

BJ was one of the first women to really embrace the soul of me.  Didn’t put me down but was gentle and kind.  The Black women were hard, edgy, and clickish.  Ironic that BJ, a White woman, would be the first woman, I trusted in the program.  Made me believe that I would get better took the time to take me places, including one time the grocery store almost against my will. She said what are you gonna do instead of going with me.  It was my birthday. I said well… for real i don’t know but I’ll be alright.  “What makes you think you’ll be alright?  What do you normally do on your birthday?”  An honest answer came out before I could think of a lie, “Get high and have sex. In that order.”  Eye to eye, I surrendered.  “Okay the grocery store it is.”

I’ll never forget the friendship she offered nor the sense of sisterhood that gave me a glimpse of the woman I could become with a little help from my friends.  I also learned that I would regain self-respect even after years of self-loathing and shame.
God bless BJ and all the people that You’ve populated my life with who loved me before I could love myself.  Amen.  So be it!

I'm an author, inspirational speaker, vocalist, and performance artist. I was a heroin addict saved from myself and the lifestyle (with all the pain that comes with it) but the mercy and grace of God. Thus, I am a late bloomer; but blooming none-the-less. I've yielded every talent given me, and am now using them to encourage, inspire, and motivate others to discover and lives God's marvelous plans for their lives. My books include my latest, Walking On Water When The Ground Ain't Enuf; I Say A Prayer For Me: One Woman's Life of Faith and Triumph (Warner); 12-Step Programs: A Resource Guide For Helping Professionals; and Contributing Author of SistahFaith: Real Stories of Pain, Truth and Triumph compiled by Marilynn Griffith (Howard/Simon&Schuster). I also perform a one-woman show with comedy infused throughout. It's who I am--by God's grace--one woman on a journey toward unwavering faith.
